Hi There! It’s David here…I’d like to share a little of the BrainFocus Story with you so you can get a sense of what it’s all about.
A company name needs to be catchy and tell a story in itself. I chose BrainFocus Centre to tell both an outer story and and inner story.
‘Brain’ comes from, well, my long standing love and study for this most fascinating and mysterious organ that directs everything we think, feel and do. It also has to do with the mind, which we really don’t understand either. But the Brain-Mind is something that we now have gained deeper insights into and I use this knowledge to empower people to transcend their limitations…. and my own!
‘Focus’ is the key to succeeding at anything in life. When I was teacher in a classroom, I was acutely aware of this and would often tell students ‘they just needed to focus to get better grades; to be more successful’. And I left it at that. I did not realize then, that the incorrect assumption I was making was that the kids new how to focus. Because I knew how to focus, I assumed that everyone should know how! Oops! Nothing could be further from the truth – especially now, in our high-tech, information overloaded, distracted-brain-mind society!
As a student of meditation, I was particularly struck when I came across a brain study of that showed the how the ‘Executive Brain’ (frontal lobes) became much more active when the brains of experienced meditators were deep in a meditative state compared to when they weren’t. (Like, they were lit up, man! Just compare by looking at the pic of the brain scan!) This, and other studies, visually demonstrated a direct brain link to the power of focus and that it is a higher brain function (Meditation requires an intense ability to control your attention, that is, your focus).
I know, from experience, that to ask anyone to ‘give up’ 20 or 30 minutes a day to mediation is a tough sell. But I knew its benefits and I realized that techniques derived from mediation, that could be packaged in a 1 or 2 minute per day practice, would yield positive results to help meet life and school demands to improve overall brain-mind functioning and coping.
Now, ‘Centre’ is a place of activity that we usually think of as being outside our Self. It is also a place we can think of inside our Self (‘Self’ is used quite deliberately here as the core of who you are). It is a place you can rest in, find peace, contentment and inner satisfaction. It is sometime referred to as inner Balance. But our ‘Self Centre’ is often filled with turmoil, pain and ultimately suffering under the duress of life.
In my quest to bring the concept of the BrainFocus Centre to life, I have learned and tested dozens of techniques and strategies that can be customized and experimented with to fit with the individual needs of The Self, thus yielding, unfailingly, a value-add to the peace and contentment we ALL seek.
